Ect Paper Combinations

Box Performance. ECT The Edge Crush Test (ECT) measures the ability of combined board to sustain a top-to-bottom load. The strength is directly related to the compression strength of both the liners and medium. There are two gages of strength. Box compression strength (BCT) is the maximum load a given box can stand for a moment.

Is there a mathematical formula to calculate the ECT value

Burst strength is a contribution by the liners alone without regards to the medium. So 200# test board can be engineered with 18# to 47# medium. NOW, THE ECT VALUES ARE VERY DIFFERENT! Predicting ECT for different combinations requires knowing the cross direction ring crush strength or STFI of the components.

Apr 24, 2009 · ECT usually has a higher recycled content, which makes it less expensive, but the fibers are often worked more and shortened. Some paper mills will dye their higher recycled paper a darker tint to give it the appearance that there are more virgin fibers in the paper.

Today, this is the most common type of test used (and the most common box sold is a 32 ECT). The Mullen Test measures bursting strength of the corrugated linerboard (measured in psi). Many customers like Mullen tested boxes for protection of heavier contents because they are concerned about the linerboard bursting.

ECT measures the force (in pounds per linear inch) required to crush a sample of board standing on an edge. The result is regarded as an indicator of the compression strength (the force that can be withstood momentarily before causing collapse) of a box made from the board; therefore, there is some indirectness, although not as much as with Mullen.
